David Sullivan rules out January sale of Winston Reid
David Sullivan has revealed that no first team players will be sold in the forthcoming January transfer window.

And that automatically rules out the possibility of contract rebel Winston Reid leaving until the end of his current contract next June.

West Ham's co-owner told the Mirror: "There is not any price we would sell any players for. First team players will not be sold.

"We are happy where we are, we don't want to unsettle the team, we are short of numbers with the Africa Cup of Nations and I can't imagine any circumstances where we would sell a player in January.

"We'd sell a squad player because we are looking at bringing players in in Janaury. But we've got the luxury of buying for the future. Normally we are buying through panic but not on this occasion."

Sam Allardyce revealed earlier in the week that he and Sullivan are looking to sign at least one player of sufficient quality to slot straight in to the first team, if required.

The club are also set to confirm the arrival of 21-year-old central defender Doneil Henry - who is understood to have received a work permit - from Candian side Toronto.

Don't think we can complain about the fees got from Abramovich for Johnson and Cole since the next best offers were about £1.25m and £750,000 from Everton and Tottenham for Carrick who when told that wasn't a fair price said "you'll accept what we offer, you're going into administration" which the Chairman Brown later corrected to say it would have been bankruptcy not administration with no money coming in and the 7th highest wage bill in the Premier League... in the Championship.

Those days behind us now..

Well he played in the first game so there's nothing shady going on with regard to keeping him from being cup tied

He's been quite dignified with his silence and now this, but IMO it's a bit cunty to let your contract run all the way down on purpose and deny your club the transfer fee, whether you discuss it publically or not.

Usually only happens when they have been tapped up and promised something by another club.

Fair play to him, he's within his rights to do it, but it's a bit of a dick move, to be honest. We probably could have got an 8 figure transfer fee for him.

Not sure why people feel the need to praise his comments. In my opinion they don't derserve credit.

Not having a go at the lad but what the fuck is he on about? It just basically says "I'm not signing but I'm not ruling out staying".

Oh, ok thanks Winston. Very insightful. Might aswell as not said anything.

Translation:

He will weigh up his options at the end of the season. If he is offered first team footy and a decent wedge by a bigger and better club than West Ham, he will go.

Hard to argue with that really.

Re: David Sullivan rules out January sale of Winston Reid
i do not begrudge any player leaving if he has given his all whilst at the club. footballing careers can be over in an instant, if i were a player i would want to make the very most of my career, whether that be in terms of things won or money, probably a combination of both. let's not forget that whilst some fans will be bitter, many criticised him a lot when he first arrived, he has strived and worked hard to improve and in that time helped us greatly. lets also not forget that we are all thinking that he will get a nice 1/2/3m signing on fee as there is no transfer to pay for, but he runs the risk of getting a career threatening injury and having nothing going forward. unlikely i know, but he is running a risk.

i wish him good luck and i hope he will get a good reception upon any return.
